First two weeks, Moon Festival, and Typhoon

I'm running my computer on a hotspot from my phone, yay for no consistent internet in my apartment. Nevertheless, my first two weeks in Hong Kong have been busy between teaching, holidays, and storms.

I'm teaching at a preschool in the New Territories of Hong Kong. I teach preschool classes as well as Mommy and Me toddler classes. It is a thematic curriculum, so each class has a specific theme like camping or policeman. After a few days of observation and training, I'm teaching on my own along with my TA/Administrative Assistant.

This past weekend was the Mid Autumn Festival (Moon Festival). Hong Kong celebrates this Chinese festival with lots of flair. Victoria Park downtown was decked out with lanterns and a blue dome made out of recyclable materials. There were also several dragon festivals that derive from local traditions long before the creation of Hong Kong as global city. Moon cakes abounded in the markets, which is a favorite snack of mine so I tried every variety I could find :)

This weekend also brought a looming typhoon. Said to be the largest in over 30 years, I am currently waiting out the storm in my apartment as high winds and rain continue outside. Classes were canceled today and are most likely to be canceled tomorrow until the warnings lower back down to below 3 (currently at 8).
